The Cherai Beach, 10 kms long is the best golden beach of Kerala. The beach is shallow, calm and is ideal for swimming & sunbathing. The newly beautified main beach with the walkway adds to the charm and the Highmast lamp makes the beach enjoyable even at night. Dolphins are occasionally seen here.
Munnar is one of the magnificent attractions of Kerala with vast stretches of tea and spice plantations lining the winding roads. Along with this, the lakes and waterfalls, the cattle breeding farms and the Anamudi peak within the Eravikulam National Park all accentuates Munnar’s beauty.
Thattekkad Bird Sanctuary also known as Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary is located in the Ernakulam district. The landscape is covered with tropical evergreen and deciduous forests and patches of grasslands. Thattekad is home to around 500 species of bird species and draws nature lovers from all parts of the India and world as well. Boating facilities are available.
The Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary is situated on the banks of the Periyar Lake - an artificial lake, at Thekkady. The landscape is clothed in dense evergreen, deciduous forests and grass lands and here roam herds of Elephants, Sambars, Tigers, Gaurs, Lion Tailed Macaques and Nilgiri Langurs. The main attractions are elephant rides, cruises on the lake and treks to the ruined Mangala Devi temple - a beautiful old stone temple situated in the heart of the Thekkady forest. The sanctuary offers the unique opportunity to watch and photograph wild elephants at close quarters.
Kumarakom, is located a 1-hour drive from Cochin near to Kottayam town. A bird sanctuary here spread across a 14-acre span, is a favourite haunt of migratory birds & an ornithologist's paradise. The house boat cruises along the backwaters in Kumarakom are very popular among tourists and give an insight to the village life in Kerala. Boat races are also held in the lake in Kumarakom.
A town with picturesque canals, backwaters, beaches, and lagoons, Alleppey is also known as "Venice of the East". The backwaters of Alleppey are the most popular tourist attraction in Kerala. It connects Kumarakom and Cochin towards north and Quilon to the South. Alappuzha is also the access point for the annual Nehru Trophy Boat Race, held on the Punnamada Lake, near Alappuzha.
